My introduction
My name is Christopher Kliks, though I often go by CK Triplett in my writings. I am an English teacher by profession, based in Bratislava, Slovakia. I am also a writer. I come from the state of Oregon. I first left home in 1990, shortly after leaving university, to begin my teaching career. I started in Japan, then moved to (South) Korea, and by 1994, was ready to take on Europe.
My blog is about my travels and day-to-day life experiences in middle Europe, and it traces my steps back to 1994 when I arrived in the Czech Republic. I went on to Poland (and a few visits to Slovakia), then back to Oregon in 2004 (where I did no teaching but some writing). There is an 11-year gap and then the blog picks up in 2015 when I arrived in Slovakia to accept a teaching job and settle down.
I've been keeping journals or diaries of some kind or another in virtually every place I've lived since 1990, except Poland. I really have no idea why. I just never wrote anything in Poland! I also did not keep a diary of any kind while living in Oregon.
This blog is divided into a few parts. I will attempt to post much of my work starting in 1994 in the Czech Republic with Memoirs of a Pub Adventure (The Czech Republic), right up till the present. Memoirs of Hiking and Castles (Slovakia) is about my life Slovakia. Memoirs of Other European Destinations is about my adventures in countries other than the Czech and Slovak Republics. Lessons from the Classroom contains anecdotes and experiences learned from my students and/or personal experiences during English lessons. Shorts Stories are what they are: short stories inspired by living in Europe. Finally, Observations in Real Time are just day-to-day observations of life, including "people watching".
Bear with me. It's definitely a work in progress as I go back through years' worth of writings to choose the best, most share-worthy experiences. So click around and have fun!
